What it’s about. Jody glaubt nicht mehr an eine rosige Zukunft. Der 20-jährige Afroamerikaner hat sich in seiner Arbeitslosen-Lethargie eingerichtet. Mit Yvette und Peanut hat er jeweils ein Kind, aber er lebt noch bei seiner Mutter Juanita. Da Verantwortung für Jody ein Fremdwort ist, schiebt er mit seinem Freund Sweetpea lieber eine ruhige Kugel. Aber seine Mutter hat andere Vorstellungen von Jodys Leben. Vor allem ihr neuer Partner Melvin, der früher als Krimineller für Furore gesorgt hat, glaubt an die Möglichkeit, das Schicksal zum Guten zu wenden. Er hat es vorgemacht und Jody soll nun endlich auch auf eigenen Füßen stehen. Der reagiert allerdings mit Ablehnung auf Melvin, was diesen wenig kümmert. Jody hat keine andere Wahl, als sich mit seinen Problemen auseinanderzusetzen.
