What it’s about. Nachdem die zwei Engel Loki und Bartleby vor tausenden von Jahren in die Ungnade Gottes gefallen sind und von ihm auf ewige Zeiten aus dem Himmel nach Wisconsin verbannt worden sind, möchten sie nun zurück nach Hause gelangen. Ein ihnen vom Dämonen Azrael zugespielter Zeitungsartikel zeigt einen möglichen Weg auf: Ein Kardinal aus New Jersey bietet anlässlich der Einhundertjahr-Feier seiner Kirche allen Katholiken einen generellen Ablass zur Vergebung ihrer Sünden an, sobald sie diese Kirche betreten. Loki und Bartleby hoffen, so in den Himmel zurückkehren zu können. Damit wäre allerdings die Unfehlbarkeit Gottes widerlegt und alle Existenz würde vernichtet werden.

Who’s in it. Dogma stars Ben Affleck as Bartleby, Matt Damon as Loki, Linda Fiorentino as Bethany Sloane and Jason Mewes as Jay, among others.

How it landed. With an audience score of 6.9/10, Dogma has drawn a solid, mixed-to-positive response. It went on to earn $31.4M at the box office.
