What it’s about. Winter 1942 im einstigen Belorussland: Durch den tiefen Schnee bewegt sich ein russischer Partisanentrupp. Unter den völlig erschöpften Partisanen befinden sich auch Frauen und Kinder. Zwei Männer, der erfahrene Partisan Rybak und der Armeeoffizier Sotnikow, trennen sich von der Gruppe, um für diese Lebensmittel zu besorgen. Dabei werden sie von deutschen Soldaten gestellt und zum Verhör gebracht. Sotnikows und Rybaks Standhaftigkeit kommts ins schwanken, als sie eine dramatische Entscheidung treffen müssen: Entweder mit dem Feind kooperieren – oder aber ihren sicheren Tod.
