Durante un paseo veraniego en barco, Roger cae al mar y se ahoga, pues, sorprendentemente, Elena no hace nada por salvarlo. Algún tiempo después, conoce a Richard, el hermano de Roger, y éste, que que conoce las circunstancias de la muerte de Roger, la chantajea, amenazándola con un escándalo, si no le deja participar en sus negocios.
