What it’s about. Sonya Martinovitch y sus dos hermanos viven en una pequeña granja en Montenegro. El hermano mayor se alista para luchar en la 1ª Guerra de los Balcanes contra los turcos. En la primera batalla el hermano muere y Sonya queda al cuidado de la granja y de su hermano pequeño. Uno de los turcos capturados, el noble Mahmud Hassan, es asignado a Sonya como cautivo para ayudarla en sus quehaceres cotidianos en la granja, sustituyendo al hermano muerto. Sonya, que desconoce su alta alcurnia, le trata con frialdad desde un primer momento, al contrario que otras mujeres de las granjas vecinas, que suspiran por su galanura. Pero poco a poco, y sobre todo con la amistad surgida entre el noble y su hermano pequeño, irá cambiando de actitud hacia el cautivo...
