What it’s about. Honoré Panisse agoniza alegremente, con amigos, su esposa y su hijo a su lado. Se confiesa con el cura delante de sus amigos; insiste en que el médico sea sincero. Pero no se atreve a decirle a su hijo Césariot que su verdadero padre es Marius, el hijo ausente de César, el padrino de Césariot. Panisse se lo deja a Fanny, la madre del muchacho. Fingiendo que va a ver a un amigo, Césariot busca a Marius, ahora mecánico en Toulon. Haciéndose pasar por periodista, Césariot pasa tiempo con Marius y se va creyendo que es un ladrón.
