What it’s about. En 1890, el famoso detective Sherlock Holmes malvive en Londres convertido en un cocainómano. Tras una larga ausencia, su inseparable compañero, el Doctor Watson, va a visitarlo. Al encontrarlo en semejante estado, decide llevarlo a Viena, a la consulta del joven psicólogo Sigmund Freud, con la esperanza de que éste le ayude a superar su adicción a las drogas. A través del psicoanálisis y la hipnosis, Freud consigue adentrarse en el subconsciente del detective. Durante su convalecencia, Holmes conoce a una paciente de Freud: Lola Devereaux, una actriz de teatro que sufre un gravísimo trauma que le impide articular palabra. Poco después, Freud y Holmes se ocupan de resolver un caso de secuestro en el que está involucrada la actriz.
