What it’s about. Tras la I Guerra Mundial, Domenico (Vittorio Gassman) y Umberto (Ugo Tognazzi), dos soldados sin ocupación, se reencuentran en Emilia. Incapaces de encontrar trabajo, deciden integrarse en el movimiento fascista, en busca de una oportunidad de prosperar. Durante una huelga de barrenderos, en la que sustituyen a los trabajadores, golpean accidentalmente a un policía y son encarcelados.
