What it’s about. En Segovia a principios de los treinta el acaparador viudo y tísico Marcos debe ser prudente pero tiene relaciones con la prostituta estéril Mercedes cada semana. El la saca del burdel y le ofrece matrimonio. Aunque los males de él le repugnan se casan y van al campo con Daniel, el joven hijo de él, que la desea pero la hostiliza. Entonces ella precipita la muerte de Marcos pero Daniel se va a continuar sus estudios. Ella seduce al ingeniero y pintor que ahora dirige la fábrica de Marcos. Daniel vuelve y deja que su madrastra descubra su relación homosexual con el ingeniero. Éste se mata y Mercedes se baña para entregarse a Daniel.
