Melodrama judicial que se desarrolla nada menos que en la ciudad de Praga –en realidad en los estudios de la Paramount–, donde Rudek Berken es un duro fiscal que cierra un café en el que se practica la prostitución, y envia a prisión a la mujer que la regenta. Sin embargo, Rudek no puede evitar sentirse atraído por la hija de la madame, por la que llega incluso a cometer un asesinato accidental al protegerla de las garras de uno de sus viciosos pretendientes.
