El coronel Haki, de la policía secreta turca, le advierte que Peter Bana, un asesino a sueldo de la Gestapo, anda tras él; para garantizarle la seguridad, le obliga a zarpar en un barco con destino a Batumi, donde podrá reencontrarse con su esposa. Howard sube al barco, en el que viajarán otras personas de dudosa identidad... además del siniestro Banat.
