Tras enviudar, Irene, panadera en el barrio de Hortaleza, trata de sacar adelante a su familia: Palmira, su madre, con demencia senil, y sus dos hijas: Julia, que tiene problemas con el alcohol y acaba de separarse, y Magda, una adolescente llena de complejos y contradicciones.
