What it’s about. Paolo Solinas, un joven sacerdote, regresa a su pueblo natal, en Cerdeña, donde se ve envuelto en la disputa entre dos familias rivales: los Barras y los Corraine. En recuerdo del amor que años antes le ligó a Agnese, una hija de Barras, Paolo intenta reconciliar a las dos familias. El jefe de los Corraine desea casar a su sobrino con Agnese, pero la joven, que sigue enamorada de Paolo, rechaza la boda. La guerra estalla de nuevo con más fuerza que antes.
