Ambos matrimonios coincidirán después en París, en plena invasión nazi y con el escenario del Gobierno colaboracionista de Petain. A partir de aquí se desatarán las lealtades patrióticas de Nick y Armand, y la fragua del destino hará su parte para avivar los deseos íntimos de Nick hacia Liane.
