What it’s about. 29 degrees in the shade is a one-act comedy by Eugène Labiche, premiered in Paris at the Palais-Royal theater on April 9, 1873. One summer Sunday, Pomadour receives two of his friends as well as Adolphe, a stranger invited unexpectedly. Pomadour having surprised Adolphe giving kisses to his wife, gets angry and wonders about the follow-up to be given to this affront. His friends having assured him that in the event of a duel, the adversary makes a point of not defending himself, Pomadour demands a duel with the sword. But understanding that Adolphe is a skilled swordsman and that he is determined to defend himself, Pomadour tries to get out of this bad situation. His wife then comes to his rescue, in her own way.
