What it’s about. Durante la última mitad del siglo XIX el escritor Richard Darrell salva a Don Carlos de dos ladrones, éste le confía un valioso collar para que lo traslade a España. Richard abandona a su prometida, Oriana, y comienza el viaje. Durante el trayecto se encuentra con Wycroft, un cómplice del señor Francisc Castteldow, un aristócrata que pretende separar a Oriana de Richard. Éste es asaltado, robado y casi asesinado y, debido a este acontecimiento pierde la memoria. Richard acaba casándose con una muchacha gitana, Rosal, mientras Oriana, dándolo por muerto se casa con el cruel señor Francis.
