Troy (2004): cast, story & where to watch

Released in 2004, Troy is an action, adventure, war and history film directed by Wolfgang Petersen, running about 163 minutes. “For passion. For honor. For destiny. For victory. For love.” — that tagline sets the tone.

What it’s about. In year 1250 B.C. during the late Bronze age, two emerging nations begin to clash. Paris, the Trojan prince, convinces Helen, Queen of Sparta, to leave her husband Menelaus, and sail with him back to Troy. After Menelaus finds out that his wife was taken by the Trojans, he asks his brother Agamemnon to help him get her back. Agamemnon sees this as an opportunity for power. They set off with 1,000 ships holding 50,000 Greeks to Troy.

Who’s in it. Troy stars Brad Pitt as Achilles, Orlando Bloom as Paris, Eric Bana as Hector and Brian Cox as King Agamemnon, among others.

How it landed. With an audience score of 7.2/10, Troy has been warmly received by audiences. It went on to earn $497.4M at the box office.
