Black Panther (2018): cast, story & where to watch

Released in 2018, Black Panther is an action, fantasy, adventure and science fiction film directed by Ryan Coogler, running about 135 minutes. “Long live the king.” — that tagline sets the tone.

What it’s about. King T'Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country's new leader. However, T'Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne by factions within his own country as well as without. Using powers reserved to Wakandan kings, T'Challa assumes the Black Panther mantle to join with ex-girlfriend Nakia, the queen-mother, his princess-kid sister, members of the Dora Milaje (the Wakandan 'special forces') and an American secret agent, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

Who’s in it. Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as King T'Challa / Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan as N'Jadaka / Erik 'Killmonger' Stevens, Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia and Danai Gurira as Okoye, among others.

How it landed. With an audience score of 7.4/10, Black Panther has been warmly received by audiences. It went on to earn $1.3B at the box office.
