The King (2017): cast, story & where to watch

Released in 2017, The King is an action, drama and crime film directed by Han Jae-rim, running about 134 minutes. “Only One Will Become.” — that tagline sets the tone.

What it’s about. Born in a poor family, Tae-su learns that the power is the most important thing in life and decides to become a prosecutor, the biggest symbol of power in the 90’s. After entering the most prestigious law school, experiencing democratic resistance in Korea, Tae-su finally reaches his goal of becoming a prosecutor but his life is no better than a salary man. By chance, he joins a clique of the powerful prosecutors with wealth and authority. He finally gets a taste of a life of the top hierarchy, but as he enjoys the sweetness of supremacy, he also sees the cruel side of it.

Who’s in it. The King stars Zo In-sung as Park Tae-su, Jung Woo-sung as Han Kang-sik, Bae Sung-woo as Yang Dong-chul and Kim Ah-joong as Lim Sang-hee, among others.

How it landed. With an audience score of 7.5/10, The King has been warmly received by audiences.
