Hoffnung - Fünfmal am Tag poster

Released in 1966, Hoffnung - Fünfmal am Tag is a documentary film directed by Hans-Dieter Grabe, running about 30 minutes.

What it’s about. Electric locomotives in the West, steam locomotives in the East. This report from Bebra uses "observations at a German train station" to illustrate the division of Germany. This was the terminus of the "interzone trains" that carried East German pensioners to visit relatives in the West. While the widening gulf between family members is noticeable, the residents of Bebra have made their peace with the division, not least of all because some of them profit from it financially.
