Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV (2016): cast, story & where to watch

Released in 2016, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV is an action, animation and science fiction film directed by Takeshi Nozue, running about 115 minutes. “The Final Fantasy XV saga starts here.” — that tagline sets the tone.

What it’s about. The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the world’s last remaining Crystal, and the menacing empire of Niflheim is determined to steal it. King Regis of Lucis commands an elite force of soldiers called the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, they fight to protect Lucis. As the overwhelming military might of the empire bears down, King Regis is faced with an impossible ultimatum – to marry his son, Prince Noctis to Princess Lunafreya of Tenebrae, captive of Niflheim, and surrender his lands to Niflheim rule. Although the king concedes, it becomes clear that the empire will stop at nothing to achieve their devious goals, with only the Kingsglaive standing between them and world domination.

Who’s in it. Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV stars Go Ayano as Nyx Ulric (voice), Shioli Kutsuna as Lunafrena Nox Fleuret (voice), Ayumi Fujimura as Crowe Altius (voice) and Keiji Fujiwara as Ardyn Izunia (voice), among others.

How it landed. With an audience score of 6.8/10, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV has drawn a solid, mixed-to-positive response. It went on to earn $270K at the box office.
