What it’s about. Deux jeunes neurochirurgiens talentueux — Pyotr et Sasha — travaillent avec enthousiasme sur une expérience médicale complexe. Mais en quête de stabilité et d'une vie meilleure, Piotr part travailler à Stockholm, Sasha devient un haut fonctionnaire. La vie à l'étranger de Pyotrr ne s'additionne pas et il retourne à Moscou. Réalisant que son ami a une vie complètement différente, Pyotr se rend en Sibérie, où il travaille sur une ambulance. Là, il rencontre une fille atteinte d'une maladie du cerveau, dont il avait déjà participé à l'étude, mais n'a pas terminé le travail. Le sentiment en vain d'une vie vécue, ratée, un sentiment de culpabilité professionnelle face à cette fille malade, que personne ne peut secourir, le tourmente, et il se remémore à nouveau son véritable destin.
