De son côté, Manfred se montre de plus en plus aigri et sceptique. Le jour où le nouveau procédé de fabrication qu’il avait élaboré a été rejeté, il décide de partir à Berlin-Ouest. Mais après lui avoir rendu visite, et malgré son amour, Rita choisit de revenir en RDA…
