Von Werra redevenait alors l’une des idoles de la jeune nation allemande: un homme courageux et indépendant se battant pour sa survie, mais sans identification aux thèses national-socialistes. En 1941, Franz von Werra disparaissait au cours d’une chute, dont les conditions restent mystérieuses, et qui a suscité de nombreuses rumeurs, tout comme son origine.
