Le chef apache Young Eagle essaie de maintenir la paix avec les blancs, mais son neveu, Black Wolf, qui voudrait le remplacer, multiplie les provocations avec les soldats et tue plusieurs civils. Il est capturé par Young Eagle, qui doit le remettre aux soldats, mais, aidé par des complices, Black Wolf s'évade. L'armée donne six jours aux apaches pour le lui remettre, faute de quoi elle donnera l'assaut au campement des indiens.
