What it’s about. Kuwahata Chokichi était un acteur célèbre, mais on soupçonne maintenant qu'il souffre de démence. Il est trahi par sa fille aînée, Yukiko, son mari et son ancien disciple, Ikuo, et l'amant de Yukiko, un mystérieux chauffeur, et est envoyé dans une maison de retraite de grande classe. Un jour, Chokichi s'enfuit de la maison et se rend à la plage où il rencontre sa fille cadette, Nobuko, qu'il a eue avec sa maitresse. Bien qu'il ait rejeté Nobuko dans le passé, il commence à l'imaginer en Cordelia, qui est la fille bien-aimée du roi Lear, après lui avoir parlé. Peu à peu, ses souvenirs du passé commencent à lui revenir et il va affronter sa descente vers la folie.
