What it’s about. Alan est un jeune journaliste débutant républicain et conservateur. Il travaille à son premier livre, un traité sur les aspects négatifs de l'homosexualité. Il garde la sienne soigneusement cachée. Pour ce documenter il parcourt la Californie en interviewant des gays. Tommy blond et très sexy est avocat et surtout un militant gay doté d'un solide sens de l'humour. Les deux jeunes hommes se rencontrent lors d'une fête en en 1973. Bien malgré lui, Alan finit par succomber au charme de Tommy. Les deux hommes vivent heureux ensemble quatre ans, jusqu'au jour de la parution du livre d'Alan. Tommy, dégoûté, par ce qu' il y découvre quitte alors Alan. Mais le destin n'en a pas fini avec eux...
