Matsuzaki (Eiji Okuda) est un pronostiqueur de course pour un journal sportif, un voyou qui passe la moitié de son temps ivre, traîne avec des yakuza et d'autres racailles et complique sa vie sexuelle en succombant aux avances de la sœur de sa petite amie. Incarné par Okuda, il est également une figure au charme considérable. Moins un film basé sur l'intrigue qu'un guide des différentes formes de jeu à enjeux élevés au Japon, cela se concentre sur sa tentative d'aider un ami escroqué dans un jeu de mahjong tordu. Hakuryu apparaît (de manière mémorable) comme un yakuza impénétrable dans une veste en cuir noir. Le succès du film a conduit à deux suites.
