What it’s about. Otsuya, femme rebelle et déterminée, fuit sa famille pour se marier avec Shinsuke, un simple commis, contre l'avis de ses parents qui n'acceptent pas cette relation. Les deux amants trouvent refuge chez un ami de la famille, Gonji, mais ce dernier les trahit. Il organise l'assassinat de Shinsuke pendant qu'Otsuya est vendue à la maison de geishas de Tokubei. Comme symbole d'humiliation, Seikichi, un mystérieux tatoueur, lui grave une araignée dévoreuse à tête humaine sur le dos. Petit à petit, Otsuya se laisse envahir par l'esprit du tatouage et donne libre cours à ses pulsions vengeresses...
