What it’s about. Bernard Labarges adore sa jeune épouse Elisabeth, une ancienne danseuse qui s'ennuie à mourir depuis qu'elle a mis fin à sa carrière. Elisabeth décide de renouer avec la pratique de son art et fait sa valise le jour même où Bernard se dispose à acheter le somptueux château qu'il compte lui offrir et dans lequel ils vivent déjà. Tout à ses occupations, Bernard ne remarque que tardivement sa lettre de rupture. Il sombre dans le désespoir, se noie dans l'alcool et offre à son notaire, Brice, et à l'ancien propriétaire, Serge, une hospitalité qu'aucun des deux n'ose refuser. Or la légende veut qu'une prostituée défunte, Rita la Rouge, hante ces lieux...
