Un jour, elle parvient à capturer un vautour, ce qui provoque le mépris de Joseph et l’admiration de son père. Ce dernier veut alors la marier à Vinzenz, un fermier voisin. Wally refuse et, chassée par son père, se réfugie dans les montagnes où elle va vivre avec son vautour.
