Nicolas veuf bambocheur père de Lisa, une fillette, apprend peu après la mort de sa femme que son enfant n'est pas de lui mais d'un certain Michel, demi-vieillard usé, malade. Nicolas abandonne la fillette à son véritable père sans se soucier du chagrin qu'en ressentira l'enfant. Celle-ci en mourra.
