Malka, la soeur de Rivka, est amoureuse de Yaakov mais ce dernier a choisi de vivre en dehors de la communaute juive orthodoxe, au rand dam du rabbin. Malka va donc epouser Yossef, son fidele assistant. Si Rivka demenage et sombre lentement dans la solitude, Malka trouve une autre issue: la rebellion.
