What it’s about. Victime d'un naufrage, Robinson Crusoe se voit dans l'obligation de survivre sur une ile deserte en compagnie de son chien Rex et d'une petite chatte. Il va, durant ce long sejour (vingt-huit ans), perdre la foi, rencontrer des cannibales, sauver Vendredi, en faire son esclave puis devenir son ami et enfin repartir dans sa patrie. Bunuel n'aimait pas le roman de Defoe, mais attire par le personnage de Robinson, il fait de son film (le premier qu'il realise en couleurs) une reflexion sur l'homme seul face a la nature et les rapports maitre esclave.
