Par retours en arrière successifs, le film retrace des moments clefs de la vie du Prince, moments qui l’ont mené à cette fin tragique. Dans ce film, nous ne trouvons pas de personnage fictif, le scénario est conforme aux documents historiques existants : – rares passages des Annales du Roi Yeongjo et des Relevés quotidiens du Secrétariat royal, – Mémoires de Dame Hyegyeong, épouse du Prince (Han-Joong-Rok, 한중록, Mémoires écrits dans le silence, recueil de 4 récits composés entre 1795 et 1805) – et quelques autres témoignages. Est-ce à dire que ces documents ne détournent pas la réalité ? Il y a peu de chances de le savoir.
