What it’s about. Dans une base aérospatiale américaine, le lieutenant Dan Prescott attend son heure. Dans les laboratoires, ingénieurs, techniciens et médecins peaufinent le petit bijou dans lequel ils s'apprêtent à propulser le fougueux astronaute dans l'espace. La fusée B12 enfin achevée, Dan Prescott embarque et l'engin rejoint les étoiles. Téléguidé depuis la Terre, l'astronef enregistre certaines mesures, puis regagne sagement son point d'atterrissage. Mais Dan, mis en appétit par ce premier voyage, piaffe d'impatience. Lors du second trajet, à bord de la fusée B13, il fait fi des ordres de la base et sort du champ de liaison. C'est un fermier mexicain qui retrouve la carcasse de son vaisseau. Dan a subi une transformation chimique qui le mue en un monstre sanguinaire...
