Pour sauver son ami Jacques Rupert, impliqué dans le meurtre d'Alice Gérard, Barney Morgan, reporter aux "Nouvelles de Paris" dont Rupert est le rédacteur en chef, fait condamner le mari de la victime, Michel Gérard, que tout semble accuser. L'avocate de Gérard, Marianne, démontre à Barney que son client n'est pas coupable. Barney sauve l'innocent de la guillotine au travers de mille périls, en faisant paraitre une édition spéciale qui confond les coupables. Marianne sera la récompense.
