What it’s about. Après une brillante carrière dans la Marine nationale, Régis Morel, 77 ans, passe le plus clair de son temps sur son propre bateau, un voilier de douze mètres. Mais un jour, un événement important vient brutalement le confronter à son passé, l'arrachant du jour au lendemain à sa sérénité. L'occasion lui est enfin offerte, avec soixante ans de retard, de faire reconnaître sa filiation au nom de l'enfant qu'il a été, et d'exercer les droits qui y sont rattachés. Mais Régis se retrouve face à une famille de notables provinciaux accrochés à leur fortune et à la haute idée qu'ils se font d'eux-mêmes.
