Directeur d'un institut de redressement mental, le psychiatre Gérald Swan soupçonne son collègue, le docteur Colin Ramzi, de se livrer à des expériences diaboliques et des rites morbides sur ses patients lobotomisés. Cherchant une preuve, il suit discrètement ce dernier jusqu'au sous-sol de l'institut et découvre le carnage. Il assassine son collègue et, afin d'éviter le scandale, l'emmure avec les cobayes dans "la chambre des morts".
