Autrefois membre de l'un des groupes armés notoires qui ont été contraints par le gouvernement égyptien de mener de violentes attaques contre des manifestants sur la place Tahir le 2 février 2011, Mahmoud a depuis perdu son emploi, a été battu et humilié, et a été ostracisé par sa propre communauté qui vit près des pyramides. Mahmoud est au bord du désespoir lorsqu'il rencontre Reem, une divorcée et pensrice moderne qui travaille dans la publicité. Reem est une écologiste fervente qui vient d'abord dans le quartier délabré de Mahmoud pour s'occuper des chameaux et des chevaux qui ont été laissés à eux-mêmes.
