John et Johnny retrouvent Polo : son père veut récupérer les 3000 dollars qu'il lui avait prêtés pour faire un investissement. Mais Polo, pilier de bar, lui annonce qu'il n'a plus cet argent, déclenchant la fureur de son père. De son côté, Johnny, le fils préféré, souffre toujours de son retour du front en Corée et cache tant bien que mal son addiction à la morphine...
