Un supervolcan, particulièrement redoutable. Il existe depuis deux millions d'années et, par trois fois déjà, il est entré en éruption. Avec une périodicité d'environ tous les 600 000 ans. La dernière éruption ayant eu lieu il y a 640 000 ans, il est donc tout à fait envisageable qu'une nouvelle éruption se produise dans un avenir proche. Quelles seraient alors les conséquences d'une telle catastrophe naturelle pour les Etats-Unis mais également pour l'ensemble du monde ?
