What it’s about. Une compagnie de cinéma américaine arrive dans un village d'Indiens au Pérou pour tourner l'histoire de Billy the Kid. Les Indiens sont particulièrement impressionnés par Kansas, le metteur en scène qui agit comme un général au milieu de ses troupes. À la suite d'un incident tragique sur le plateau où un acteur est tué lors d'une cascade, Kansas décide d'abandonner le cinéma et de rester au Pérou avec une femme de la région. Il pense avoir trouvé le paradis, mais il est bientôt appelé à l'aide pour un incident bizarre : les indigènes péruviens "filment" leur propre western avec des "caméras" faites de bâtons, et jouent les scènes violentes sans trucages, car ils ne comprennent pas les simulacres de films.
