D'après l'incident réel de Honno-ji, dans lequel le célèbre seigneur de guerre Oda Nobunaga a été assassiné dans un temple de Kyoto en 1582. Avant l'assassinat, Shinzaemon capture Araki Murashige, un général accusé de déloyauté. L'intrigue tourne autour du sort de Murashige, dont Nobunaga veut briser le cou.
