What it’s about. Maître Tuan (Ti Lung), connu sous le nom de Deadly Breaking Sword, est un chevalier réputé et craint que la fierté pousse à défier tous ceux qui osent lui tenir tête. Sa particularité est qu’il laisse un morceau d’épée dans l’ossature de son adversaire précipitant ainsi sa mort. Alors qu’il se bat en duel contre Lian San (Michael Chan Wai Man), un autre artiste martial émérite, il se fait blesser après l’avoir gravement touché. Lian San parvient in extremis à fuir et est recueilli par le Docteur Guo (Ku Feng) qui décide de le remettre sur pied. Pendant ce temps, un jeune homme obsédé par les jeux d’argent, Xiao Dao (Alexander Fu Sheng), perd un enjeu stupide : il devra servir gratuitement le patron du tripot et sa nièce (Lily Li) jusqu’à ce qu’il puisse rembourser la somme de 500 taels. Au même moment, une mystérieuse prostituée (Shih Szu) arrive en ville. Les événements vont bien vite réunir tous ces personnages au sein d’un même drame…
