Le dernier fils d'une grande famille de maîtres de kung fu, les Huo, est privé d'apprentissage martial par son père qui l'estime trop frêle et préfère le destiner à une carrière de lettré. Le rejeton va apprendre les rudiments du kung fu avec l'aide de son précepteur et finir son apprentissage en espionnant l'entrainement de son père. Il deviendra un champion national et devra se mesurer à des adversaires de tous pays.
