What it’s about. Jake Cardigan a avoué, au grand étonnement de tous, le meurtre de Bennet Sand, le mari de son ex-femme. Beth et Walter font leur possible pour lui venir en aide. Plus entêté que jamais, Jake accepte finalement le soutien d'un avocat, Eugene Leopold. Leur première confrontation provoque quelques remous. De son côté, Beth tente par ses propres moyens de découvrir de nouveaux indices. Peu à peu, elle comprend que Jake souhaite protéger le véritable meurtrier.
