What it’s about. La police de New-york découvre le corps nu d'une prostituée, flottant sur les eaux de l'Hudson River. Meurtre gratuit, crime sexuel ? les enquêteurs n'ont guère le temps de s'interroger : à peine la nouvelle s'est-elle rependue à travers la ville que trois nouveaux assassinats sont signalés. Une jeune et jolie étudiante en arts apporte à la police un concours inattendu. Douée de pouvoirs extra-sensoriels, elle a eu la vision prémonitoire de tous ces meurtres, et en a fixé les macabres détails en une saisissante série de croquis. Un ambitieux reporter de télévision, Paul McCormack, et un de ses plus vieux amis, l'officier de police Larry Weeks, s'attachent à Virna, rivalisant pour obtenir d'elle des détails inédits.
