What it’s about. Jean Brooks a perdu son mari il y a cinq ans dans un accident de bateau. Son corps n'a jamais été retrouvé et il ne se passe pas un jour sans que Jean ne pense à l'éventuel retour de son époux. Un jour, l'inspecteur Oscar Ortuso vient la trouver pour lui dire que le disparu a été retrouvé mort sur un quai désert de Chicago. Un bracelet médical était accroché à son poignet. Choquée, Jean veut comprendre ce qui a bien pu se passer pendant cinq ans. Son mari a-t-il simulé son décès ? Que savait-elle vraiment de lui et l'aimait-elle réellement ? Elle décide de faire appel à Eddie Fate, un jeune détective privé, pour tenter de découvrir la vérité...
