What it’s about. Indien de la tribu Paiute, Willie Boy revient dans sa région natale, en Californie, afin d'y épouser la femme blanche qu'il aime, Lola Boniface. Le père de celle-ci s'y oppose catégoriquement. En état de légitime défense, Willie Boy finit par le tuer et s'enfuit avec elle. Le shérif local, Cooper, se lance à leur poursuite … Il découvre bientôt le corps de la jeune femme abattue (coutume indienne ou solidarité de la femme attachée à celui qu'elle aime ?). Désormais, et en dépit de la sympathie qu'il éprouve pour l'Indien, Cooper n'aura d'autre recours que d'exécuter le fugitif, qui, de son côté, n'avait pas chargé son arme.
